Siesta Key Area Guide

With powder-soft white sand, clear Gulf waters, and a welcoming coastal atmosphere, Siesta Key has earned a reputation as one of Florida’s most beloved beach destinations. Located just off the coast of Sarasota, this barrier island offers the perfect balance of stunning beauty, outdoor recreation, vibrant local restaurants, and cultural attractions.
At Siesta Sands Beach Resort, we’re fortunate to call one of the island’s most desirable areas home: Crescent Beach. Situated right on the shore near Point of Rocks, our guests enjoy direct beach access and convenient proximity to many of the experiences that make Siesta Key special. Whether you’re planning a family vacation, a romantic escape, or an extended stay by the water, this guide will help you discover some of our favorite places to explore.

Beaches, Snorkeling & Water Adventures
Life on Siesta Key revolves around the water. Crescent Beach offers a quieter alternative to some of the island’s busier stretches of shoreline while still providing the same soft quartz sand and beautiful Gulf views that have made Siesta Key famous.
Just south of our property, Point of Rocks is one of our most popular snorkeling locations. The limestone formations create habitat for a variety of marine life, including parrotfish, grunts, snapper, small rays, and crabs. Early mornings, when the water is at its calmest, and mid-to-high tide typically provide the best visibility.
Beyond snorkeling, visitors can enjoy paddleboarding, parasailing, jet skiing, windsurfing, shelling, dolphin watching, and fishing excursions. Siesta Key Watersports offers a variety of activities, including dolphin cruises, banana boat rides, private boat charters, and boat rentals, making it easy to get out on the water during your stay.
For families, few activities are more popular than spending the day at the beach searching for shells, spotting dolphins offshore, and enjoying the warm Gulf waters.

Dining, Nightlife & Local Favorites
One of the best parts of staying on Siesta Key is the variety of dining options available within minutes of the beach.
Guests love visiting favorites such as Big Water Fish Market for fresh seafood, Clayton’s Siesta Grille for casual dining, Captain Curt’s Crab & Oyster Bar for its prime location in the Village, and Crescent Club for dinner with a view and great cocktails.
For breakfast or brunch, Toasted Mango Cafe and Sun Garden Cafe remain longtime favorites, offering guests everything from traditional egg breakfasts to delicious baked goods like pecan sticky buns or coffee cake.
When the sun goes down, Siesta Key keeps going with nights of tiki drinks, music, and fun. The Siesta Key Oyster Bar (SKOB) and the Daiquiri Deck frequently host live entertainment and excellent happy hour specials.
Some of our favorite lesser-known spots include Blasé Café, The Cottage, and Sniki Tiki. These local establishments offer a great way to experience the island beyond the most heavily visited restaurants.

Siesta Key Village & Shopping
Siesta Key Village is the social hub of the island. Filled with restaurants, boutiques, cafés, live music venues, and beach shops, it’s easy to spend an afternoon exploring the area—no itinerary necessary.
Visitors can browse local retailers like Lotus Boutique, stop into Beach Bazaar for beach essentials and souvenirs, or simply wander through the collection of independent shops that give the Village its character.
One of the advantages of staying at Siesta Sands is that you’re within walking distance of many top sights and activities. For everyday essentials or your grocery run, Crescent Beach Market offers a convenient option close to the property.
While Siesta Key provides plenty to see and do, you’re also just across the bridge from Sarasota, where you’ll find even more to check out.
Explore Sarasota’s Arts & Cultural Scene
While Siesta Key is known for its beaches, Sarasota offers some of Florida’s most impressive cultural attractions.
The Ringling is one of the area’s most notable landmarks, featuring art collections, historic architecture, beautiful grounds, and the former estate of circus entrepreneur John Ringling. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens showcases stunning tropical plants and waterfront gardens along Sarasota Bay, while Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium offers interactive exhibits and marine life encounters that visitors of all ages will love.
Downtown Sarasota offers even more with theaters, galleries, concert venues, shopping, and waterfront dining. When you want a night out on the town during your getaway, Sarasota provides plenty of opportunities beyond the beach.

Events & The Best Time to Visit
Siesta Key offers something unique during every season.
Winter brings some of the year’s most pleasant weather, making it a popular time for visitors escaping colder climates. Spring delivers warm days, lively energy, and busy beaches. Summer offers long days on the water, family-friendly activities, and lush tropical scenery. Fall is often considered one of the island’s hidden gems, with warm Gulf waters, fewer crowds, and excellent beach conditions.
Several annual events draw visitors throughout the year, including the Siesta Key Crystal Classic Sand Sculpting Festival, Siesta Key Community Fireworks, the Siesta Key Farmers Market, and the popular Sunday evening Drum Circle, where locals and visitors gather on the beach to celebrate sunset with music and community.
No matter when you visit, Siesta Key’s blend of natural beauty, outdoor recreation, local culture, and coastal charm will have you wanting to return year after year.
